Turkey receives more international property buyers than almost any other Mediterranean destination. Alanya in particular has attracted significant investment from Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Scandinavia and the UK over the past two decades. Many of these buyers have solar on their primary residences and are keenly interested in doing the same on their Turkish property — but understandably have questions about the process.
This guide answers the most common questions we receive from international buyers about installing solar on their Turkish property.
Can Foreigners Install Solar in Turkey?
Yes, absolutely and without restriction. Turkish law permits solar installations by any property owner regardless of nationality, provided the property is registered in their name. The permit and grid connection process is identical for Turkish and foreign owners.
The Permit Process
All grid-connected solar systems in Turkey require a grid connection permit from the local distribution company (TEDAŞ/EDAŞ). This involves submitting an application with engineering drawings, waiting for approval (typically 4–8 weeks), installing the system, attending a meter swap appointment, and activating net metering (NetSayaç).
We manage this entire process on behalf of all our clients, including foreign owners. We prepare all documentation, communicate with TEDAŞ/EDAŞ in Turkish, attend all appointments and deliver the completed paperwork to you in English.
Managing Your System from Abroad
One of the most common concerns from foreign buyers is: "Who looks after the system when I am not in Turkey?" This is precisely why we built our IoT monitoring platform and local maintenance service.
- IoT monitoring runs 24/7, tracking every parameter year-round
- Our local engineers receive automatic alerts for any performance anomaly
- Annual maintenance visits are conducted by our team at a pre-agreed schedule
- Warranty claims are managed entirely on your behalf
- Monthly performance reports in English sent to your email
Language and Communication
Our team includes fluent English speakers who manage all client communication for international buyers. All project documentation — proposals, contracts, technical specifications, grid connection certificates — is provided in English. WhatsApp is our preferred channel for quick communication.
Financial Considerations
Solar system costs in Turkey are significantly lower than in Western Europe due to lower labour costs and proximity to Asian manufacturers. A premium 15 kWp villa system with battery costs approximately ₺210,000 — equivalent to roughly €5,500–€6,500 at current exchange rates. Annual savings of ₺80,000+ (€2,100+) give a payback of under 3 years at Turkish electricity tariff rates.
Practical Tips for International Buyers
- Ensure your property's TAPU (title deed) is in your name before starting any application
- We can work with a power of attorney if you cannot be present in Turkey during the process
- Turkish electricity supply is 230V/50Hz, compatible with all European appliances
- EV chargers: we specify Type 2 connectors, compatible with all major European EVs
- Turkish bank accounts are not required — we can invoice in EUR or GBP on request
